In 6 month blocks for the past 2 years, and under the guidance of tutors Stu Brown and Alan Bryden, students at Annette Street Primary have formed their very own samba-style street band, the unstoppable Annette Street Drummers. We are thrilled that with the award of funding from Creative Scotland’s YMI strand the Annette Street Drummers now has support for the next 2 full academic years!
Keeping the beat together requires concentration and discipline, as well as great communication – essential skills in all aspects of life. The group have gone from strength to strength, and last year secured an incredible Bronze Medal for their performance at Indoor Music Games/Soundsport Glasgow at Bellahouston Park. With performances in front of their schoolmates and at community events in Govanhill and Mount Florida under their belts their confidence is only growing, and we can’t wait to see what the next 2 years hold – keep your ears to the ground for some percussive performances soon!
Annette Street Drummers is part of The Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI) which is administered by Creative Scotland. The YMI creates access to high quality music making opportunities, enables young people to achieve their potential in or through music and supports the development of the sector for the benefit of young people.
